Drabble: Roxas and Mickey, light (Another Side AU)

libekory~ All you need to know about the Another Side AU is below the cut, it's a very simple premise. Please to be not making any commentary about Jesse McCartney's musical career. "Get Your Shine On" is so inappropriate for KH2 anyway.
(Another Side is the story of another KH2, wherein Roxas is not absorbed into the unconscious Sora in the basement beneath the mansion. Instead, and with some help from a certain pair, he struggles against DiZ's brainwashing and fights back and is, instead, the one who overcomes his Other. However, Roxas now has the memories of being not only a Nobody, but also a boy in Twilight Town, and also Sora; slightly confused, he becomes more than he was before, and finds himself to a certain extent following Sora's path... in other words, saving the multiverse.)
.shine.
"Why did you save me," Roxas said quietly. The quiet patter of rain made the cobblestones shimmer, turned his hair to crystal. He made no move to get to his feet. He wasn't sure what to do, what to say. How do you face someone whose motives you have questioned again and again, who you have fought and struggled against, and acknowledge that you owe them your life? Nothing in any of his lives had prepared him for this moment.
The king didn't seem to notice his distress, or if he did, he didn't acknowledge it. "Well, that's simple, Roxas," he said, kindly. "Everyone deserves a chance to live. I just... gave you a little more of a chance, that's all."
He could see himself reflected in the street. He looked tired and hurt. Somewhere nearby, Xaldin's body wasn't -- it was already gone, scattered into darkness. Perhaps reclaimed. Axel and Namine were unconscious, but well: an Assassin hovered protectively over their crumpled forms, ready to defend them against the minor Heartless that still lurked near. Axel was already beginning to stir.
"You've been manipulating me all this time." It was impossible to be angry now, but his fingers tightened around the elegant curve of gold keyblades. "Dropping hints, leaving messages and instructions. Telling me where to go and what to do. Why?"
"Isn't that obvious?"
The king took a few steps closer, until he was standing next to him. They were nearly an equal height, with Roxas slumped to his knees in the street.
"I wouldn't be asking if I thought it was obvious," he said, voice dull, feeling dull. Maybe the king was still playing with him -- maybe Xemnas had been right about him, about his feelings towards the ones who had resided in the dark. That they were inferior to those of the world of light, and that he could rule them simply by virtue of being one who ruled over the 'greater' world.
He didn't have to look up to know that the king was smiling; it was in his voice when he asked, "Have I ever asked you to do anything wrong, Roxas?"
"...no."
"You've helped people," said the king, and, "in ways that I can't. That's why I've trusted you with these tasks. There's a light that only you can bring."
Everyone said things like that to him. With some irritation, he snapped, "I was born from darkness."
And the king told him, "That doesn't mean that you can't shine. Don't ever let anyone tell you that, Roxas."
Slowly, Roxas lifted his gaze. But Mickey was already moving away, waving cheerfully at the Assassin (it waved back, hesitant) and greeting Axel as the Nobody regained consciousness, as he looked up and turned pained skepticism on the excited mouse king.
The rain made even midnight seem bright.

I love the Disney characters (Donald and Goofy aren't simply forgotten; the last time we played, in fact, Goofy was under discussion) but it would be so awesome to have an all-Square party. Roxas and Axel and Namine = ♥
As for the site, better to ask

In the meantime, I will draw silly spoofy pictures, although I can only imagine/guess wildy at what you two have planned for the story, I can also inspire? :3

(Anonymous) 2006-07-17 03:10 am (UTC)(link)And silly spoofy pictures are love~. ♥ Inspiration is wonderful. Also, we love you so much. XD
But the site's, mmm, still only in progress in my MIND. I felt inspired on it this weekend, though, really inspired, so next weekend I may get around to starting it up. :3

I just thought I'd get that out of the way.
He's so unassumingly awesome in KH. ♥ Especially in his adorable little Organization cloak. And he's so nonjudgmental. He's taking, I think, Sora's line -- that Roxas is still the one who will open the door.
But, squeal. That's why this was one of my challenges. ♥~ It'll take us a bit to get there, and I wanted to see it. ♥♥♥
Also, the Assassin informs me that it likes Mickey, he has manners. (Apparently uncommon in the people Axel normally associates with.)
Also, the fact that he entered the scene by saving everyone's lives? Kind of puts him in the plus column. And I just really love the last line. I want to hug Mickey, like I wanted to hug Auron on that drabble. Squeal~.

Yeah, that would be kind of a bonus, wouldn't it? Most hardcore mouse EVER.How do you not like Mickey, he's so enthusiastic and happy to see you. He even sounds happy to see Xemnas half the time.People who make Roxas feel better are just ♥

And squee. It's a good line! And. *cuddles mickey*
Just SLIGHTLY. People who prevent Axel from getting his fool self killed are nifty, and it doesn't hurt that he saved the little master, either, Axel would be sad without him.And for some reason the bit about sounding happy to see Xemnas just KILLS me. I thought you should know.

He's so, so, so. Woobie. And badass. Like Yoda, only less green. ♥!
And his Org coat has ears on the hood. XDno subject
I know it totally does. XD XDI just want to cuddle him, he's so nice and he kicks so much ass. XD Seriously, it's the awesomest totally weird thing ever. Major points for being a sweetheart.

What is it with Cryptic Short Mentor-y People That Are Also Somehow Kickass? Yoda and Mickey should join forces and conquer all evil 4evar.

However, despite that, it was still beautiful, and filled me with love, because, well, ROXAS, LIVING! YAY! And the Axel and Namine with him bit, that was just fabulous, and fills me with glee.
But, but, Sora. T_T
Also, curious: Couldn't you say that, technically, Roxas was born from Light if he was born from Sora? Or am I just being annoying and splitting hairs, and having too much fun with the fact that I see Roxas as Sora's Darkness, seperated but equal to the fiercness of his Light? :D
And there is something that has been confusing me greatly: If Sora was not actually in the same version of Twilight Town as Roxas, then they never physically met. So why would that scene have caused one or the other of them to be eaten? As far as I can tell, the two of them can co-exist seperately, as has been proven by the time prior to this. Was it more in the fact that Roxas ended up giving up his sense of self when confronted by the image of Sora? That it was the final thing that broke him, and caused him to lose the urge to survive? Which if I'm not mistaken, is the main key to being a Nobody.
...or am I completely off my rocker?
Ngh. And now I'm shuddering at the thought of Riku and Roxas meeting post-game, and dealing with the fact that Riku effectively helped kill him when there was really no need for it. Oh, god.
BUT, YES. Loved this, and I loved how Roxas viewed the King as opposed to how Sora viewed the King. It made me happy. :] And so did the Assassin Nobodies, ♥ Does that mean that Roxas has Samurai helping him too?
Because that would be so cool. ♥♥♥

Sora, really, is Sora. He wouldn't have just laid down and died -- but this is the way it happened, and he can accept that. And Roxas is a part of him, and in a way he does feel like Roxas deserves a chance himself. He wouldn't have laid down and died for him, but that doesn't mean he doesn't feel BAD for him. And so he's kind of happy, in a way, that it's Roxas's turn to live now.
Roxas thinks he's the most confusing person ever and doesn't understand him at all. He's such a sweetheart. *weeps*As for the darkness: the curious thing about Nobodies is that they all have elemental affinities but it doesn't seem like NORMAL people do. Sora doesn't have an elemental affinity, and neither does Donald -- they can both use all kinds of magic. Sora doesn't have a native element. But Roxas's element is light -- even though he was born from darkness, from base impulse, from pure survival instinct. Curious, I think~! So what I'm saying here is that if anything it's the opposite, and Roxas has the affinity of light because of who Sora is, but at the same time, that doesn't make him less part of the darkness, just like all Nobodies. :3
Thaaaaat is a
plot holetricky situation. There are two possibilities: the room where they keep Sora is already established to be special. DiZ had it built specifically for Namine when she joined him in the mansion, because it was like Castle Oblivion -- an in-between space, real and not real, and thus easy for her to work her witchery in. Not much of a stretch to assume it can be in both places, and thus Sora can be in both places. The other possibility, and I like that one, is that you're right, and Sora was never physically in the same room with Roxas. It's simply that upon reaching that point, a confused and tired and broken boy who doesn't know who he was anymore and is starting to think maybe he shouldn't exist, just... gave up, and Sora's stronger will drew the pieces of himself back together without his ever even noticing. It just happened unconsciously to make him whole again. I really like that theory -- it fits very neatly with my perception about what happened with the "eating" in the first place. ♥ *pompoms you*
Another Side!Roxas doesn't trust Mickey, who doesn't actually show up for the longest time, just tells them where to go without ever actually speaking to them in person. It felt to him like being manipulated. But... well. ♥ It's Mickey.
He doesn't have Samurai, though. :\ It's kind of tearing him up a bit, but he's not a Nobody now. He has a heart, he's Somebody. They can't obey him over Xemnas anymore...
The Assassins had to go through a very ugly position to get to where they are here, with Axel again. X3 But that's a seeeecret.

But, yes, *weeps*! I'll still read it anyway, of course, because you are too good to pass up, as is Roxas and Axel, but, still, ;_;
Okay, you win! XDD I hadn't thought of it that way, but yeah, that works rather well, it does.
Also hadn't looked at that in that way, either, but you're right, I suppose, since Twilight Town is supposed to be an in-between world, right? Still, I'm with you, I like the other possibility better, :D
I squee every time I see Mickey in the Org!Robes, ♥ Gangsta!Mickey, baby.
*wibbles* Poor Roxas! And I can't wait to see what you guys have come up with, and the repercussions and the glee, and oh. Yes, I'm excited~♥
no subject
Oh, yes. I too am ALL FOR IT. That's wonderful. It also actually works just fine with what we've got set up for how Roxas eats Sora instead -- Axel tells him, basically, to be strong, and that it'll be fine. Something similar. (Obviously getting Sora to let Roxas have him instead would involve some work on Namine's part, since she's the only one who would be able to interact with him while he's in "stasis"; and that works with what we have, too.
Look, Kay-san, more accidental awesome.)Also, I like how this involves Sora having to choose to let go and let Roxas live, at least on some level.
That ought to be some comfort to Riku.And. Hahahahaha, the Assassins. Yes. I don't think Roxas would necessarily want his if it required the same, err, process. ♥♥
Don't mind my evil glee; that part was just my brainchild, and I'm somewhat proud of its horribleness. ^_~
I feel like I should warn you, though, that what we have going is entirely in script format -- and, uh, let me count real quick, 424 pages long. And we're not even on our third world yet. So, it'll probably stay in script format. XD
It's going to be on a website, divided up neatly by world, with essays, artwork (we've already got someone making us fanart~~~ eeeee~~~), and drabbles on the side. So it should be pretty easy to process and read, like a script for the game only with much thicker **'s to describe their actions.
If you're still interested, by all means, check it out once the site's up. If you keep haunting my journal, I promise I'll announce it with GIANT FONT OF DOOM.

Horribleness = ♥
to an extentAnd, yeah. That whole 424 pages thing? Rocks my fucking socks, because I am such a whore for long things, and I don't care that it's in script, I trust you guys~♥
