.move out, move in.
"I didn't think you were ever going to move out of that little room," Flynn said with some amusement as he stepped through the house.
It was small, nothing to compare with the fine estate that propriety would insist the Commandant of the Imperial Knights receive in his own residence, but Yuri didn't need anything fancy. Dog-friendly access, a few comfortable rooms, a kitchen with all the conveniences, a windowsill with a nice view big enough for a grown man: that was pretty much all he asked for.
"Like Mina would let me stay there forever. She was getting pretty heavy-handed with all the talk about how grown men shouldn't be mooching space at an inn. And waving that rolling pin of hers around..." Yuri said casually, but he spared a glance for Judith, lingering by a window and gazing out over the city.
She was the reason he had moved. Not directly, although he wouldn't have put it past her to make oblique, innocent comments about his hospitality until he found himself talked into getting a bigger space. But one rainy morning he had looked up to find her already out of bed, sitting in the windowsill where he usually did, with Repede half in her lap, both of them staring out at the gray day. And suddenly it seemed like a very small room, too small for them; or for her, maybe, like a cage, when the whole world was normally at her fingertips.
It wasn't like he'd done it for her, though. It had just made him realize he could use more space, that was all.
"So are the two of you going to be living here together?"
Judith turned around, her eyebrows lifting. Yuri nodded, not turning a hair. "Yep. Me and Repede."
Flynn's lips curved up wryly, but Judith relaxed slightly. All three of them had been thinking something else at that question.
"I'll try to stop by and keep them company every now and again," Judith said breezily, flipping a hand.
"Is this really what it's like all the time with you two?" Flynn shook his head, continuing into the house, exploring. "Evasions, games, pretending nothing matters..."
Judith put a hand to her chest, innocent. "My. It's like he doesn't know us at all."
"Yeah, I don't know who he's talking about," Yuri agreed.
"Hopeless," Flynn pronounced, hands on his hips. He was navigating the hallways, peering into the small, sparse guest bedroom, and then further in to the master bedroom, with its single bed.
It was very large, and very comfortable. That had been another thing Yuri had been looking for, although slightly less important than the other qualifications.
"You two make a perfect couple, if you consider never admitting you care about each other 'perfect'."
Yuri couldn't help his grin. It was just like Flynn to make such a big deal out of something so very not his business. He couldn't help sticking his nose where it didn't belong. His concern was endearing, if not also amusing.
Judith mused, "I don't even remember admitting we were a couple."
Flynn turned around, hands still braced on his hips. "That is the problem with you two. It would take you -- years before you were actually ready to make a commitment, and by then you'd be so set in your ways that you'd be afraid the other one wouldn't want that. Yuri, did you even ask her if she wants to move in?"
Suddenly posed with an awkward question directly, Yuri cleared his throat, glancing at the bed. "--I was thinking about it," he said. He had actually been thinking about not asking her, and just letting her drop by the same way she had been.
"See? You need -- someone to keep you two grounded. Someone who isn't afraid of showing their feelings."
That caught Yuri's attention again, and he said, "Now that's an interesting idea." He wasn't quite sure where that was going. It seemed extraordinarily unlikely, and yet...
"Did you have someone in mind?" Judith asked. She seemed unfazed as ever by the line of questioning, but now she shifted, something in her bearing and her lidded eyes a little more -- predatory, Yuri might've called it; sensual, he recognized it now.
Flynn cleared his throat, and allowed, "I wouldn't say no."
Yuri was stunned, genuinely impressed for a moment, because he hadn't thought Flynn had it in him. Judith crossed the room to Flynn, and he watched her slide up to Flynn, casually and almost possessively putting a hand on his shoulder. "I told you he wouldn't object to the idea," she tossed over her shoulder.
Flynn was still flushed, but he managed, "What do you mean, you told him I wouldn't object?"
"Not in so many words," Yuri said, chuckling. "There was less about 'he's not afraid of his feelings' and more about 'he'd like it'."
Judith murmured, "Really, really like it." Her hands already seemed to be working their way into Flynn's clothes.
"You've talked about this?" The blond still seemed hung up on that train of thought, although his arms were already going up, maybe reflexive, to slide up her bare back. He looked up at Yuri, eyebrows drawn together. It's really okay? he seemed to be asking.
He had to chuckle. There was a woman with her hands inside Flynn's shirt promising to do wonderful things to him, and he was still waiting to make sure he had permission. Yuri told him, "And I thought you were much too prim and proper these days to go along with it. I'm just glad we didn't agree to make it a bet."
"I always win bets," Judith said, yanking the shirt open and off his shoulders.
Yuri let his gaze trail down over Flynn's bared chest appreciatively, and then shut the door behind them.
