Kyou Kara Maou Pair: Ani/Jose

Jose jiggled the child on his knee and cooed, "Aren't you a beauuuutiful girl?" She threw her hands about and reached for his dreadlocks and he pulled his head back out of reach so she didn't snatch him bald. "And with such a probably strong grip!"
He didn't mind babysitting, really, and he never minded coming to Shin Makoku. Muraken was always there to welcome him and Shibuya Yuuri was usually happy to see him, and the girls here were very pretty and seemed to appreciate his dark coloring more than anyone in Mexico ever had. A big plus.
He just was kind of curious as to why Gwendal had wanted him to babysit his daughter when her mother wasn't going anywhere.
Be very, very careful, the Mazoku lord had warned. There are more predators who might be after a little girl than the obvious.
"Daddy's a little bit overprotective isn't he?" Jose drawled, shaking his head and delighting the little girl, who watched his hair swing about with fascination. "But we're not going to tell him so, because Daddy's a little bit scary, isn't he? He tried to beat up Uncle Jose once, because he's scaaary."
"What are you telling my daughter?"
Jose looked up, startled. The domineering Anissina von Khrennikov was only a recent acquaintance of his and had in short order of meeting him confiscated his NASA learning tapes, his CD player, and his Rolex for her investigation. He was a little bit intimidated by her.
"Nothing," he said, guiltily, and put the little girl down. She rolled onto hands and knees without missing a beat and crawled over to the brightly-colored blocks on the floor nearby.
"Did Gwendal really attack you?"
"Uh, well, it wasn't unwarranted. I was kind of... being a threat."
Anissina gave him a long, cool stare, which he felt himself freezing under. Then she turned and left the room again.
Jose exhaled, a little relieved when she vanished from sight. The woman was unnerving. He couldn't imagine what Gwendal felt he needed a babysitter for when his wife was capable of reducing grown men into a bundle of nerves with a single glance. Besides, if anyone actually tried to run off with his daughter, a vengeful woman trained in combat was going to be a hell of a lot more effective than a goofy man trained in pediatric psychology.
He was enlightened in short order, when he heard Anissina's voice call, "Katerina! It's time that we had a little TALK."
Recognizing either her name or her mother's voice, the little girl looked up hopefully, peering in that direction. Jose got to his feet. "What kind of talk?" he asked, reasonably enough, he hoped, considering that the baby wasn't old enough to speak yet.
"THE talk."
Jose was stunned speechless for a long moment. It was one thing to fear someone preying on babies -- that sort of thing happened -- but children that still couldn't walk did NOT need the sex talk. Maybe BOTH your parents have some issues, little girl.
He was even more surprised when Anissina reappeared, dragging behind her a very large, heavy metal piece of equipment. "What's that?"
"This is Maybe You Can Help Mommy With Her Experiments-kun," Anissina said, as if introducing them. "Katya seems to have a healthy gift for maryoku and we can't let it go to waste. It's important to get girls involved in the sciences at an early age."
"You can't do that to a one-year-old!" Jose insisted indignantly. Blue-flame eyes met his, and he knew right away that this was the enemy he had been warned about. It explained everything.
